We’re running a bit behind in officially announcing our Athlete of the Month for July. Truth be told, we wanted to give our June Athlete of the Month a nice, long reign. Actually, that’s not true. We’re just late, plain and simple. We’ll be sure to give our newest Athlete of the Month his time in the sun though, so don’t despair.
Without further ado, our Athlete of the Month for July is Andrew Newcomb! Congratulations on this well-deserved honour, Andrew!
The coaches had only glowing reviews of Andrew and his progress, with the exception of Bryce, who believes that Andrew gains strength from other’s misery:
“Andrew has been absolutely killing it during winter,” Bryce says, “so much so that I think he gains strength from everyone’s misery when it comes to the cold.
“Winter isn’t coming because he took all of its gainz!” Bryce adds.
While the likelihood of Andrew feeding off of others’ misery is incredibly low- mostly because it’s not possible, but also because he’s just too damn nice – Andrew has made some truly incredible progress and has made massive improvements in his lifting technique.
Andrew recently PBed his clean at 80 kg. Well done, Andrew!
“Andrew’s lifting has been amazing as of late,” Bryce says. “He never shies away from being critiqued, which is why he has shown massive improvement.”
Other coaches have noticed Andrew’s dedication to improving his form and technique. According to coach Amelia Thomsett, whenever Andrew trains, he always gives 110%.
“Andrew is one of the most exciting up and coming D-squad members!” Amelia says. “He is super keen to starting competing, and I am very excited to see where this next year takes him!”
The entire coaching staff is equally as excited to have Andrew on the Development Squad, as his cheerful, friendly demeanour and rapid progress will undoubtedly inspire other athletes- D-Squad or not- to push themselves just a bit further and work just a little bit more.
As usual, Andrew will have the opportunity to create his own WOD with head coach Scott Waugh. Andrew will be able to choose his favourite movements, but will also have to throw in a few that he doesn’t like all that much. We’re excited to see what he comes up with!
Congratulations again, Andrew. The entire CrossFit Victoria community is so proud of you!
