Trail Running is a great way to spend some time outside surrounded by nature.
It’s called Trail Running, because you are running on a trail as opposed to on a footpath or on the road.
The basic running principles apply – one foot after the other, look where you are running, keep your breathing rhythmic, etc. but, the surface, direction and gradient of trails is generally less predictable than a cement or bitumen surface and this is where the fun starts!
You are using your whole body to keep you balanced, slow you down, speed you up and stay on the trail. You also have to think quick and keep an eye on what’s ahead, which means a run that might feel like a long time out on the road will go a lot quicker on the trail because you are always thinking about where your next few steps are.
Trail running is getting more popular for a very good reason – it’s a lot of fun!
